MATU: It was a closed shave for a 60-year-old motorist and his cousin when the car they were travelling in almost collided with a lorry at Jalan Pergau here, last Tuesday morning.
According to David Ulis, he and his cousin was heading to Matu Police Station to lodge a report of the death of his aunt, who was found drowned in a river near Kampung Bungan recently, when a lorry laden with oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) travelling on the opposite lane suddenly entered their lane and nearly hit their car at around 11.00am.
“At that time my cousin and I was travelling in Proton Waja car along the road at Kampung Pergau when the lorry suddenly entered our lane and headed towards us. And thank God that the lorry missed us just by an inch.
“Maybe the driver has lost his focus or felt sleepy. In his effort to avoid colliding into our car, the lorry driver lost control of the vehicle and flipped on its side by the roadside,” he said.
David added that he believed the heavy load on the lorry had caused the vehicle to skid away from their car.
