KUCHING: School children residing in rural areas with sub-par internet connection will not be adversely affected by the closing of schools beginning tomorrow (Nov 9) in light of the implementation of conditional movement control order (CMCO).

Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said the state government had put in place other alternatives to solve the issue pertaining to some student’s inability to participate in online learning due to poor internet connections.

“This is not the first time schools are closed. During the movement control order (MCO) earlier this year when schools were closed down, there were certain procedures that the schools had to follow.

“For those who have good internet connection, they will be taught online.

“As for those who have poor internet connection, there will be engagements between teachers and students through WhatsApp and SMS services,” he said.

Dr Annuar said in addition to the virtual engagement, teachers have also delivered learning materials to students who are unable to attend online learning classes.

He added that the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) also assisted teachers in passing over learning materials to students who reside in remote areas.

“The Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) were also involved alongside JKKK’s and teachers in disseminating learning materials,” he noted.
