KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg and wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang joined orphans from the Laila Taib Orphanage Complex for the break-of-fast at Grand Margherita Hotel here yesterday.
A total of 137 children from the Orphans Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (Peryatim) were treated to a hearty meal at the famous Macam-Macam Ada Ramadan Buffet at the Poolside Pavillion.
Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said the event was organised annually as part of the state agency’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).
“This event is part of our CSR initiatives and we are hosting this to alleviate the plights of the less fortunate especially orphans who are residing at Laila Taib Orphange Complex,” he said.
Among the highlights of the event was the presentation of aid by the chief minister to the orphans followed by the break-of- fast at Meisan Restaurant and thereafter followed by the Maghrib, Isyak and Terawih prayers at Dewan Asajaya.
“We at SEDC and our subsidiary companies are equally excited in delivering such happiness to the orphans because they are among the beneficiaries of our annual CSR programme. These are less fortunate children who are in need of our support and attention,” he added.
The event also witnessed the handing over of business tithes from SEDC Sarawak’s group by the chief minister to Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS ) general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shinli Nailie.
Earlier, Abang Johari received from Abdul Aziz SEDC Sarawak’s group business tithes for the
year 2018 amounting to RM320,000.
Also present to witness the handing over ceremony were State Islamic Council chairman Datuk Misnu Taha; SEDC general
manager Abdul Hadi Datuk Abdul Kadir; Tourism, Culture, Arts, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and other dignitaries.
