KAPIT: Kapit division now has eight community leaders to serve the respective communities here.
The new leaders are Temenggong Wasli Nor (Muslim community), Pemanca Engin Nyipa, Penghulu Danial Dian and Penghulu Setepan Jana Jaweng (Iban communities), Penghulu Sng Chee Hun (Chinese community) and three Chinese Kapitans, namely, Kapitan Lee See Pong (Kwang Tung), Kapitan Ling Hung Pin (Foochow) and Kapitan Teo Tien Chai (Hokkien).
The community leaders received their letters of appointment from Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when he was here on a working visit last Tuesday morning.
For Wasli, a former Pemanca, he created history for being the first Muslim in Kapit to be appointed Temenggong.
Among those who attended at the function were the Abang Johari’s deputies Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Tan Sri Dr James Masing; State Secretary Tan Sri Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani; Rural Electricity and Water Supply Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian; Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Children Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity And Ombudsman) Datuk Talip Zulpilip; Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Rural Water Supply Assistant Minister Datuk Liwan Lagang; Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Syeed Aman Gazali; and several political secretaries to the chief minister.
Also present were Kapit MP Datuk Alexander NantaLinggi; Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong; Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan; Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang; Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat; Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chuk Pai Ugon; Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong Punan; and heads of the various government departments and local community leaders.
