KUCHING: Due to the sensitive nature regarding lands in the State, it is a heavy responsibility that the staff of State Land and Survey Department must face.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg, the department has been one of the biggest government agencies in the State which made their work not only important but also challenging.

“With the number of staff totalling at almost 3,000 people, I believe that it requires a high level of commitment and support from each other to manage and administer all staff members.

“The responsibility borne by every department is important as land is something that has been close to the hearts of the people.

“This requires the department to face and tackle these issues sensibly and professionally,” he said during the launching ceremony of State Land and Survey Department’s ‘Innovation and Integrity Day’ at Imperial Hotel here yesterday.

He also urged the department to make continuous improvements towards their service delivery system.

“Among the best strategies is to instil innovation and integrity as a culture to all civil workers in the State.

“In the Land and Survey Department, this culture needs to be cultivated and expanded to ensure the department’s ongoing excellence,” he said.

Abang Johari also congratulated the department on developing the Land and Survey Information System (LASIS) smartphone application which was also launched yesterday.

“This application is another historic moment for the State government as this is another of our initiatives to provide service to the people at the tip of their fingers.

“In the past, if they wanted to buy a plan, they had to go to the department’s office but now with the app, they can purchase it anytime and anywhere.

“That is the advantage of today’s technology and should be used to provide the best services to the people,” he said.

The event also celebrated the contribution of 68 officers and staff members who will be retiring from the department.
