KUCHING: A total of 91 stalls have been put up at the Ramadan Bazaar at Taman Mini Satok (old market site) here.
The Ramadan Bazaar was officially launched yesterday by Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Johari, who is also Satok State Assemblyman, pointed out that Ramadan Bazaars in Sarawak were not just visited by the Muslims who were breaking fast but also by non-Muslims.
At the same time, he reminded traders to be responsible for the quality of food they sold.
“The food sellers must keep their stalls clean. They must also take care to prepare food in a hygienic and clean manner and not sell food that has been kept for a few days.
“This is to ensure that public health is not compromised,” added Johari when met by reporters.
The Bazaar is a platform for Kuchingites to be involved in selling food and beverages for the holy month of Ramadan such as bubur pedas, botok, nasi hujan panas and bubur syura.
Through the Bazaar, it is hoped that more traders, particularly Bumiputeras, will have the opportunity to improve their socio-economic status.
The Bazaar also promotes the local tourism industry as well as local food.
