KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has described the late Tan Sri Abang Khalid Marzuki as a person who contributed a lot to the development of the community.
He said that all the successes achieved by the Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association of Malaysia (PEKEMA) Sarawak branch president were not only for himself but were also shared with the public.
“He was one of the successful Malay businessmen. However, he always shared his success with others through his contributions in sports and welfare,” the chief minister added after paying his last respect to Abang Khalid at his residence at Jalan Muda Hashim on Friday (Feb 4).
Abang Johari said Abang Khalid was also involved in sports, especially sepak takraw.
“His passing is a great loss to society,” he said, adding that the latter also helped a lot in politics.
“We pray that his soul be placed amongst the righteous,” he said.
The chief minister also urged Abang Khalid’s family to be strong during this difficult time.
Also present were Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Samariang assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and other dignitaries.
The Abang Khalid, 74, passed away on Feb 4 at 5.43 am at Pantai Hospital, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur due to stage three bowel cancer.
