KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg performed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek Negeri today (July 20).
Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) reported that the ‘solat sunat’ started at 8.15am led by state imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
All guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) were in place and strictly followed throughout the prayer service to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Accompanying Abang Johari were Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and other dignitaries.
Meanwhile, even though Sarawak allowed Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Jamek Negeri, it limited the number of congregants to 500.
As for areas placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), Aidiladha prayers in mosques or surau were prohibited.
Apart from that, sacrificial slaughter of animals and visiting were not allowed as well.
