MIRI: With the tagline “Miri Town Can Do It”, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg reminded local Malays to develop their knowledge and skills to keep abreast of the fast-changing world.

“New technologies are bringing sweeping changes to our world, so we need skilled workers in order to progress,” he said.

Speaking at the Miri Malays Association’s 60th anniversary fundraising dinner held on Sunday night at a leading hotel here, Abang Johari said technological advancement is the way forward in today’s world.

“In this challenging era, we must have strength and persistence; equip ourselves for the future,” he said.

He then urged Sarawak Malays to emulate the spirit of Cape Town Malays in South Africa.

“They endured life’s hardship under the old apartheid regime,” he said, recalling his visit to the country more than 39 years ago.

He believed that with the same spirit, the Malays would be able to achieve success.
