MUKAH: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari’s development and economic policies have gained recognition from Sarawakians in particular and Malaysians in general.

This is evidenced by the overwhelming victory achieved by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by Abang Johari in the recent state election.

Former Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo said this at an appreciation ceremony for Tellian constituency which was held at the Kingwood Hotel here recently.

Yussibnosh, who was not re-nominated for the seat, congratulated Royston Valentine, who succeeded in retaining the seat for the ruling coalition.

“I am thankful that even though we use the new symbol, GPS, we still won,” he told Suara Sarawak.

“This shows that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari’s good development and economic policies have gained recognition from all especially the people of Sarawak.

“The auspicious victory in the last state election had earned the respect from other states in Malaysia,” said Yussibnosh.

“Their respect escalated. Sarawak used to be poor and impoverished. We are little by little demanding our rights which show our confidence.”

Meanwhile, Yussibnosh considers his service of seven years and an additional year following the emergency, including the exchange of candidates as common in politics.

“Don’t be quick to gossip because in politics there are many challenges, gossip and so on, including failure.

“There are also those who are rightly eligible but join other parties. Soon the General Election will follow and we will see 18-year-old voters for the first time in the polls,” he said.

According to him, a lot of new and young faces were featured in the last state polls which reflected that the state was not short of young leaders.

“This shows that we have many successor leaders and at the same time they really need guidance. We as party members must not weaken the spirit but give support to them, “he added.

Yussibnosh also commended past leaders such as current Yang Di Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud and former Mukah MP, Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Leo Toyad.

“We know that our area will be a Smart City from Taman Rumbia. This was the vision of the previous leaders, and now we already have many students studying here including our local children.

“The previous leaders were far-sighted and we need to continue having such vision,” he added.

Also present were Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, a political secretary to chief minister, Faridah Osman, among others.
