CMS Opus Private Equity undertakes new strategic investments

KUCHING: CMS Opus Private Equity (COPE) have had a busy first four months of 2017, successfully finalising a number of investment exits and undertaking of new strategic investments in growing consumer segments.

Private Equity funds managed by COPE successfully exited from its 29.37 per cent equity stake in Damini Corporation Sdn Bhd on 31 March 2017, via redeemable convertible preference shares. Damini is a major supplier and distributor of water meters and metering solutions in Malaysia.

COPE also successfully exited from its effective equity stake of approximately 45 per cent in logistics forwarding and shipping service provider, Delta Express Sdn Bhd on 17 April.

All investments in Delta, which is a subsidiary of Swift Haulage Sdn Bhd, were made via redeemable convertible preference shares.

On 14 April, COPE, via its managed funds, entered into several Investment Agreements to invest RM20.0 million into My-Sutera Holdings Sdn Bhd, underlining COPE’s confidence in a steadily growing consumer segment.

My-Sutera is the largest school uniforms manufacturing company in Malaysia, holding household brands such as “Canggih” and “Ammaro”.

The well-known “Canggih” brand was awarded “Malaysia Brand” in 2012, and has an established distribution channel comprising over 300 departmental stores and hypermarkets nationwide as well as via retail distribution and on-line e-commerce.

“Canggih” is recognised as a brand synonymous in bringing quality and style to school uniforms in Malaysia and is a much-preferred brand by students and parents alike. The new “Ammaro” brand line is introduced for the cost-conscious parents, but retaining most of the quality features similar to “Canggih”.

My-Sutera, which is headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor has several warehouses in the Klang Valley and has a manufacturing plant in Kota Bharu, Kelantan which is ISO 9001:2000 certified.

Other than school uniforms, My-Sutera also produces corporate uniforms and has embarked into specialised fire retardant material-based uniform for use by fire brigades, military personnel, shipboard engineers, chemical plants and the like.

The investment made in My-Sutera is expected to propel My-Sutera’s growth and to sustain the company as the number-one producer of school uniforms in Malaysia. The investment would also assist the company to further expand its product lines and to enter new markets.
