KUCHING: More than 8,000 members of the public thronged the Chief Minister’s Hari Raya Open House held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here to convey their festive greetings last Monday, the second day of Raya.
The event also featured a special performance by the Head of the State’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib which brought cheers to all the visitors.
Together with Taib’s son Dato Sri Sulaiman, they performed a Malay song titled ‘Tanya Sama Hati’, accompanied on stage by the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Amar Dato Juma’aini Tuanku Bujang.
Meanwhile when asked by reporters for comment, the Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said that he did not know about the 3,000 tourists from China had cancelled their trips to Malaysia due to the tourism tax implementation.
According to Johari, he was not informed about the matter and it would not be fair to comment without knowing the facts. “I don’t know the details, and I can’t comment if I don’t know the facts,” said Johari.
He was asked to comment on the report of which the Malaysian Association of Convention Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS) acting vice president for conventions and PCM (professional conference management) trainer said that 3,000 tourists from China had cancelled their holiday to Malaysia because they would have to fork out an estimated extra RM100,000 for the tourism tax.
