SARIKEI: More than a hundred people received ‘ang pow’ at the ‘Sejambak Kasih’ Chinese New Year (CNY) 2020 celebration held at Sarikei Innovation Centre (SIC) here yesterday.

On hand to give away the gifts was Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis who represented Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The event was organised by the Welfare Department Sarikei that picked 120 recipients from among 395 candidates proposed to the department.

The CNY gift comprised RM100 and a hamper worth RM50.

In his speech, Harden said the ‘ang pow’ was the government’s way of helping the underprivileged celebrate the occasion like the rest of Malaysians.

Also present at the ceremony were Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, Sarikei Resident Felicia Tan Ya Hua and Social Welfare officer Abu Bakar Bujang.
