SRI AMAN: Residents of Sri Aman had an early celebration for the upcoming Chinese New Year.

With less than two weeks to go, Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis graced the Lion’s head Painting ceremony held at Feng Shan Gong Temple, in Pasar Sabu Sri Aman here yesterday.

The symbolic ceremony was organised by the temple’s owner and a member of the Sarawak Hopoh Association of Sri Aman, Chin Chong Miaw.

The Lion’s head Painting ceremony is part of a traditional ceremony believed to lift the spirits of the lion before the visiting of houses begin on Chinese New Year.

Also present were Sarawak Hopoh Association of Sri Aman chairman Pemanca Lee Siang Huang, Kapitan Wilson Chai Siew Lin, Kapitan Liew Sii Ted, Kapitan Lai Joon Phin, and Sarawak Hopoh Association of Sri Aman youth member Lee Peng Wei.
