KUCHING: All Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates will contest the coming state election under the GPS logo despite coming from different component parties, said Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) secretary general said the possibility of overlapping seats among the component parties of the coalition was normal during an election and would not be a big problem for GPS.
“It’s common for each party to think that they have a better chance than the other component member but at the end of the day, there would be compromise, negotiation and amicable solution to it, among the coalition,” he said after attending a Hi-Tea event with the media at Waterfront Hotel here on Saturday.
GPS coalition comprises of four component parties namely, PBB, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
Asked on the distribution of the seats, the Kapit MP said the coalition was currently in the process of weighing the matter.
“At the moment, nobody knows for sure whether they are going to be nominated or not. Assuming one person (from any component party) is a candidate, of course he will be contesting under GPS logo.
“What’s important is that we are going in as GPS – one party. The component parties will sit down and discuss among ourselves before reaching a consensus and then we will use one common logo – GPS logo,” Nanta added.
Prompted on meetings among the component parties, he remained tight-lipped and only described the meetings as “consistent and an ongoing process.”
