KUCHING: Green Pellet (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Kanematsu Corporation to carry out a negotiation process for both short and long-term contracts for the supply of wood pellets to the Japanese market.
The MoU was signed by Green Pellet (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd chairman and Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) general manager Datuk Hashim Bojet while Kanematsu Corporation was represented by its Energy Division general manager Koji Nozaki.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was present to witness the MoU signing ceremony between the two parties which took place in Tokyo, Japan on Friday (Dec 23).
According to a statement yesterday, this is to support the state’s PCDS 2030 aspiration to generate economic growth through a green economy.
Green Pellet (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd is the subsidiary of STIDC producing eco-friendly wood pellets from wood wastes and logs from planted forests to produce high-quality pellets for industrial fuel.
Meanwhile, Kanematsu Corporation, which is engaging in the business of commercial products trading, production of traded goods, investment and others, is considering to procure on a long-term basis wood pellets from Sarawak to supply to their customers in Japan.
As this contract tenure is between 10 to 15 years, it is expected to benefit the pellet and planted forest industry in Sarawak.
Awang Tengah’s delegation that were present included Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, MINTRED advisor Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development permanent secretary Datuk Sr Zaidi Mahdi, MINTRED acting permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron, Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, Land and Survey Department director Datuk Abdullah Julaihi, MINTRED special function officer Datuk Liaw Soon Eng, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) senior vice president (Corporate Strategy) Abang Arabi Abang Narudin and RECODA Investment Promotion director Lester Matthew.
