MIRI: The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) will collaborate with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Chapter to hold a blood donation drive in conjunction with the World Blood Donor Day this month (June).
According to NSJA president Andy Jong, the event will be held from 8.30 am to 1 pm on June 12 at the MRC Miri Chapter’s training hall at Jalan Bulan Sabit and members of the public are invited to donate blood as well.
Meanwhile, this year’s organising chairlady Michelle Choo Lee Nyuk said that the theme for the upcoming blood donation drive is “celebrating the gift of blood”.
“The event is one of our corporate social responsibility programmes to encourage not only our members but the public as well to donate blood,” she said.
NSJA has been involved in organising blood donation drives in this district since 2019.
She pointed out that the campaign is to ensure Miri Hospital Blood Bank has adequate blood supply.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, it is crucial that Miri Hospital has sufficient blood supply and that is why we collaborate with MRC Miri Chapter in order to ensure blood supply is not low,” she said.
Every successful donor on that day will each receive a 5kg pack of rice, 500ml Merris Red Palm Oil classic cooking oil, goodie bag from Indocafé and Vico, a certificate of appreciation and a face mask.
Choo also advised the public not to allow the current Covid-19 situation to deter them from donating blood as she gave reassurance that the organisers will always adhere to the standard operating procedures set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
