KUCHING: A private college student was arrested for drug possession after police raided a house at Jalan Haji Hassan last Friday.
State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Supt Sahar Abd Latif said acting on a tip-off and surveillance information gathered, a team of narcotic police from the state headquarters raided the house at 4.30pm and arrested the 22-year-old suspect in the living room.
“Following checks, the raiding team seized a shoe box containing 12 translucent sachets of cannabis, a digital weighing scale, translucent unused packets, a courier packaging bag and a utility knife.”
Sahar disclosed that the seized drugs which weighed 79.50 grammes had an estimated street value of RM795.
He added the suspect was believed to have been involved in distributing the drugs since the middle of last year.
Sahar also said the suspect tested positive for drugs. He has been remanded for seven days to facilitate police investigation under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for life imprisonment or a jail term of not less than five years, and whipping of not less than 10 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The case will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
