KUCHING: The Sarawak Museum Department is in the process of turning restored forts in Sarawak into museums.
Its director, Tazudin Mohtar, said the conservation of historic buildings included Fort Lily, Fort Emma, Fort Sylvia and Fort Hose which will be turned into museums in the future.
Underscoring such efforts, Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the Sarawak government is committed to working with the department in conserving historic buildings in Sarawak.
“Several other districts such as Bintulu and Mukah, also expressed their interest and desire to set up museums in their respective districts.
“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will launch the museum in Limbang on Aug 4,” he said at the Sarawak Museum Department’s Appreciation Ceremony and Excellent Service Award 2021 held at Waterfront Hotel here on Friday night (15 July).
Abdul Karim also presented certificates to two retiring staff of the Sarawak Museum Department, namely, Adenan Amit and Sabli Bujang.
He presented the Excellent Service Award 2021 to 19 recipients.
