KUCHING: A total of 47 children participated in the Earth Hour Colouring Competition at CityONE Megamall here, earlier this afternoon.
CityONE Megamall advertising and promotion executive Fonsby John Keling said that the colouring completion was organised in conjunction with the annual Earth Hour celebration and was held to create awareness among children on preserving and conserving mother nature.
“We also have exhibition booths set up by National Resources & Environment Board (NREB) Malaysia, Wildlife Conservation and Science (WCS) Malaysia, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Institute of Biodiversity & Environmental Conservation (IBEC) Unimas,” he said today.
The competition which began at 2pm included two categories; Category A for children aged 4-6 while Category B for children aged 7-9.
Dhiya Zahirah, 6, and Gwendolyn Jong, 7, emerged as champions for categories A and B, respectively.
The top three winners along with three consolation prize winners for both categories each received a hamper while other participants received goodies from the organisers.
“We have been celebrating this event for three years now. As a matter of fact, tonight we will be switching off partial lights in the mall to show support for the cause,” he added.
He noted that apart from the colouring competition, there was also a handicraft market going on in the mall.
