KUCHING: A special prayer service was held in conjunction with Sarawak Day at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre (CEWC), here on Thursday (July 21).

Members of different church denominations and other faiths came together to pray for a better Sarawak.

New Sarawak Tribune had the opportunity to meet with some of the members at the event to ask how they felt after finally being able to gather physically.

Beatrice Kimberly

Beatrice Kimberly who rushed there after work said it felt good to be able to meet physically, after a two year hiatus.

“Due to COVID-19, we didn’t have the chance to celebrate. I am glad to be here”, she said.

Pastor Ambrose Liap

Pastor Ambrose Liap, from the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) church that it is a privilege in Sarawak to have an ecumenical service to pray for Sarawak.

“If other countries can follow what Sarawak is doing right now, that would be great,” he said, pointing out that Sarawak can be a blessing to other countries and other parts of Malaysia, referring to the theme of this year’s event, “You Shall Be A Blessing”.

Allysa Adrianna Jong

Allysa Adrianna Jong, who performed during the prayer service, said she felt grateful to God for being able to gather and hoped to see more combined church events.

Keezrawati Mujan Yusuf

Another, Keezrawati Mujan Yusuf who was part of the choir said that being able to gather together, praising God and praying together felt different from watching online services on TV.

“Being able to meet other churches also felt really good and we have people from other faiths joining us, to me it is so touching that they joined us in this event.”
