SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) wants Democratic Action Party (DAP) to come out with the truth pertaining to the recognition of Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) which the former PH government failed to fulfil.
SUPP Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong said the people especially the 95 per cent Chinese who had voted PH in the last general election wanted an explanation and clarification on the matter following a ‘stunning’ revelation by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Wong said Dr Mahathir had revealed in an interview with Sinar Harian on its March 13 issue that DAP had accepted that the PH government could not give recognition to the UEC certificate.
“According to Tun M, he cannot accept UEC despite DAP’s appeal and eventually DAP accepted that the PH cannot recognise UEC,” he added.
Wong said it was clearly stated in Buku Harapan which was the election manifesto of PH that they would recognise UEC. Moreover, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had also on December 15, 2019, stated that the matter was their election promise which must be fulfilled.
“But the revelation by Tun M shows that neither of them was telling the truth,” he said.
