KUCHING: With the commercial settlement agreement between the state government and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), Sarawak will be able to benefit more from its oil and gas (O&G) resources – working together with giant Petronas as strategic partners and devoid of the past hostility.
“We in Sarawak are happy that, at long last, Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Petronas now know our hopes and aspirations – that being an O&G producer, we in Sarawak should also in justice and fairness enjoy the benefits,” political analyst Datuk Peter Minos today.
He said Sarawakians were no longer mere or token bystanders silently watching others happily and hugely benefiting from their O&G wealth.
“Petronas and Putrajaya’s attitude towards Sarawak has turned for the better. They don’t look at us as being difficult and making non-stop demands. We appreciate and value that attitude,” he said.
He said Sarawak’s coffers would gain more from Petronas and its own O&G wealth and resources, adding that the commercial settlement agreement between both parties was most welcomed.
“We cannot help but notice that since Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin came to power as Prime Minister, Petronas has become more friendly and accommodating to Sarawak,” said Minos, pointing out that this was what Sarawak had desired all along.
He noted that thus far the state had received over RM3 billion from its state sales tax (SST).
