KUCHING: Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian said the newly appointed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Beebi Koya’s   commitment to her duties and services qualified her for the appointment and in making MACC to be more effective.

“There are many ministers who do not have any experience heading ministries but being the head, we set out policies and we drive the ministries to move on.

“The most important thing is the person heading the institution with its effectiveness and responsibility,” he told reporters after attending the state PH committee meeting here yesterday.

Baru also said the people should not be unduly worried about selective prosecutions.

“It is very natural for people to respond in that manner, but I know her as a practising lawyer and that she is qualified to head the MACC,” said Baru who is also a lawyer.

He also pointed out that what is of utmost importance is that MACC will soon set to be the most effective, neutral and credible institution in the country.

“There should not be any question on Latheefa’s appointment as the prime minister had followed the law,” he added.

Latheefa was appointed as the new MACC chief commissioner for a two-year term effective June 1 to replace Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull.
