KUCHING: The Serian St.Theresa’s Parish Pastoral Centre Building Committee has paid Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas a visit to seek financial assistance from the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).

According to a statement issued by the building committee yesterday, the purpose of the visit was to present the application and documents for funds to UNIFOR.

The representatives of the St. Theresa’s Parish Pastoral Centre Building Committee was led by its fundraising advisor John Ilus, who is also Bukit Semuja assemblyman, and fundraising chairman Dennis Sung to meet the Deputy Premier last Friday.

Others included administration advisor Reverend Father Robert Jissem, secretary Wilson Banyui, treasurer Anthony Taguk and press publicity Joseph Then.

Uggah, who is also the minister-in-charge of UNIFOR, was informed at the dialogue that the four-storey St. Theresa’s Parish Pastoral Centre would be built adjacent to the main church facing the Pan Borneo Highway.

“The three-block centre will be built to house the various spaces to facilitate the requirements. As the site of the proposed centre is at a flood prone area, the committee had spent a big sum to complete site clearing and earth filling works before other works can be done,” the statement said.

The statement also revealed that the Deputy Premier had accepted the application and he would send his officers to visit the site for further actions.

Meanwhile, the building committee will hold a building fund launching ceremony on Sept 2 this year to appeal for contributions from the parishioners.

The building committee continuously invites generous well-wishers to contribute either by handing over their contributions to the Parish Office, at the Serian main church or by banking to Hong Leong Bank, Serian with bank account number 03300013158 for St. Theresa’s Pastoral Centre Fund.
