KUCHING: Community leaders were briefed on Kuching South City Council (MBKS) iPeople Application and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Cares at the MBKS Building here yesterday.
Speaking at the briefing, MBKS mayor Wee Hong Seng stressed that the council must adopt digital technology to serve the public better.
He explained, “The briefing today is to guide the community leaders in the MBKS areas on how to use this app to submit requests and also help to promote the app to a wider audience, especially the residents in their respective areas. Thus, it is hoped that the app can forge closer council-resident relationship ties.
“The council will continue to fine-tune and improve on the app’s functionalities, features and performance, taking into account feedback from actual usage and suggestions.”
Added Wee, “The app is about real time communication with between the local authority and the people.
“It will bring about the better control of the city’s infrastructure, environment, cutting off wasteful downtime and resources to ensure Kuching is better managed and will become a sustainable and smart city of tomorrow.
“Thus, whenever the public make a complaint through the app, it is the duty of MBKS staff to assist them.
“It is hoped that in the near future, iPeople app can add online payment features that which allow public to pay for the council’s fees or assessment directly from the app.”
Wee advised the public to use the app wisely and appropriately to avoid duplication of the same request.
The mobile app, launched last May, was a much convenient and faster way for the public to send or provide feedback on issues that they want MBKS to resolve.
The app will route each public feedback to the relevant division and council officers.
SEB’s mobile application, ‘SEB Cares’ functions similarly as the iPeople app. It is, however, without the online payment feature in iPeople.
Both applications can be downloaded free in the Google Play Stores for Android smartphones while for Apple smartphones, they are found in the App Store.
