MUKAH: Community leaders in the district have thrown their weight behind Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), saying it has the credentials to continue leading the state.
They said this was because the coalition had a good grasp of the people’s needs, especially in terms of urban and rural infrastructure development.
And they are looking ahead to continued progress under a GPS-led state government.
According to Kampung Tellian village head Bonaventure Juana, as a veteran politician, caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is GPS chairman, was aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the leaders and those under him.
“The GPS government has focused a lot on the development of the state, which has been and is being implemented, for the welfare of the people,” he said.
“To boost development in rural areas and eradicate poverty, I hope Abang Johari will consider increasing the allocation to each assemblyman as the cost of building materials for rural transformation projects (RTP) programme is now increasing,” he said.
He added that the people had also always put high hope in the state leaders to continue to fight for the rights of Sarawak based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Elaborating further, Bonaventure hoped that the federal government would allocate a more appropriate and equitable allocations for Sarawak so that Sarawak could develop like other states in Malaya.
Meanwhile, Kampung Tellian Tengah village head Winnie Wena Dominic Lai, praised the leadership of GPS’ elected representative.
“Yusibnosh Balo (Tellian incumbent assemblyman) has brought a lot of changes in terms of road connection and various other infrastructures, which are indeed needed by the rural people.
“We are also pleased that the Sekolah Kebangsaan Tellian and Dewan Tujunokala are also being renovated.
“Apart from that, as the village head, I, representing the residents, hope that Mukah Hospital can be enlarged and include specialists so that patients no longer have to be sent to Sibu and Bintulu for further treatment,” she said.
Elaborating further, the Kampung Tellian Tengah village head also suggested that Mukah town be provided with parking spaces to avoid traffic congestion.
Similarly Kampung Tellian Ulu village head Hairin Junang, said under the leadership of GPS, Mukah had experienced a lot of development.
“Through the Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Programme (PPRMS), many families from the B40 group have benefited from this assistance.
“Besides that, roads as well as wooden bridges construction and repair projects are also increasing,” he said, hoping that if Yusibnosh is re-nominated he would further enhance development in the three administrative boundaries of Kampung Tellian.
