BINTULU: About 80 community leaders and village chiefs protested against any move to implement the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in Tatau district.
The village chiefs came to the decision after a meeting held solely to discuss the matter recently.
Among those present at the meeting were pemanca Gerosen Jubin of Tatau District, penghulu Sanok Magai and Tatau District Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) Committee chairman.
“We unanimously oppose the MPKK initiative which was presented by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders for their political agenda with the excuse to channel allocation.
“This situation certainly has a devastating effect on the long-standing unity among the residents especially those living in longhouses,” a statement issued after the meeting said.
The community leaders insisted that the JKKK system has proven to be effective and acceptable to the people.
“The JKKK system is also effectively managed and monitored by the District Office. On the other hand, the MPKK is made up of PH members to serve their political parties and political masters, how would they be able to serve the people fairly?
“Thus, for us, the implementation of the MPKK is not only unnecessary but a violation of the rights of the state and the dwellers of longhouses and villages.”
