MIRI: Community-based organisations are urged to place greater emphasis on social responsibility and welfare to support society and provide assistance to those in need.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew encouraged more participation from associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in charitable activities to jointly enhance the social environment and the wellbeing of the community.

“Social enterprises should demonstrate responsibility in providing services, giving back to the community, and working together to promote development and harmony within the community,” he said.

Ting said this when receiving a courtesy call from Persatuan Prihatin Masyarakat Miri (PPMM) at the Piasau Service Centre here on Monday (Oct 7).

In relation to this, he noted that PPMM has once again demonstrated its commitment to the community by carrying out the Rural Community Service 2024 in the Telang Usan area.

“This activity will focus on the rural areas of Telang Usan, particularly in Long San and Long Keluan villages, where the service team will provide necessary support and services to the local residents.

“Every year, they organise large-scale community service activities like this to assist villagers, especially those in rural communities, by addressing their living needs,” he added.

The Rural Community Service 2024 will be held at Dewan Long San from Oct 11 to 12.

Also present was chairman of PPMM, Lee Jun Tak.
