KUCHING: Individuals, organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have been urged to encourage community participation in cultural activities and performing arts.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, said the ministry is committed to enacting policies that encourage the involvement of all stakeholders in the field of tourism, art, and culture, especially through grants.

Speaking at the Sape Serenity: Rhythms That Unites Appreciation Night 2024 programme, last Sunday, he also praised the efforts of NGOs such as Persatuan Anak Seni Sape Kuching (PUSAK) which actively involve the young generation in promoting and preserving traditional musical instruments.

At the ceremony PUSAK also received appreciation for various achievements in the field.

Among them, Ivanna Anz Eddie, Mohd Ikhmal Hakim Nicolas Changing and Hubert Zach Garan Hitler Ajan who were awarded the Most Outstanding Youth Member while Awangku Rayyan Putra Johari, Baptista Emmanuell Korintus, Lis Eliza Sulugo and Fabian Emmanuel Kulleh each won the Most Active Member award.

Meanwhile, Ferderick Malidini and Stanford Ryan were awarded Most Outstanding Member while Korintus Leban, Patrick Asau and Tomi Bulen received the Sape Maker Award.

The event was a celebration of gratitude for the Sape Serenity Expo Programme: Rhythms That Unites which took place from Oct 25 to 27 at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall, here.

Various activities such as music ensemble exhibitions, exhibitions and stalls, traditional music workshops such as Sape’, Selingut and Jatung Utang by Mathew Ngau Jau, Jimpau Balan, Lian Balan, Ferderick Maldini and Ezra Tekola succeeded in attracting about 1,500 visitors.
