MIRI: State Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin applauded the local people for helping the needy regardless of their religious beliefs.

“Despite their different faiths, they help one another. Therefore, as such we must strengthen this communal character to create a caring society,” he said on Sunday (Dec 27).

Lee said this during the handover of monthly assistance to 55 orphans and 44 ‘asnaf’ (needy children) at an event held at Darul Ehsan Mosque in Piasau Jaya.

On the programme, Lee expressed his appreciation for the mosque’s social and welfare bureau for helping the needy.

Sarawak is blessed for having caring communities that look after one another regardless of their religious beliefs, the minister said.

“In Sarawak we have various houses of worship and they working together helping the needy within our communities,” he said.

He added that such strong communal spirit in various communities could help make Sarawakians more caring and create stronger bonds between them.
