BINTULU: The plight of 23 households affected by a fire at the Rh Nura Buling longhouse, Sungai Teban, Labang, has drawn attention from various parties, including Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister and Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
Representing Tiong, his special officer Steven Kong Kai Seng, along with members of the Supreme Council of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), including Saging Layang, visited the site to provide essential supplies to the displaced families.
Kong expressed sympathy to the victims and encouraged them to stay strong during this challenging time.
He noted that the victims were deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from those who stepped forward to help.
He also extended his appreciation to Tong Seng Huat (Bintulu) Sdn Bhd for their generosity in donating rice and sugar, which provided much-needed assistance to the affected families.
“I would also like to commend all the rescue units for their quick response, including the police, the electricity company, the fire department, and others, who promptly provided support and assistance,” he said.
“Last night, the Malaysian Welfare Department recorded detailed information about the victims and quickly supplied emergency items. Today, they delivered mattresses and blankets to the victims, demonstrating remarkable efficiency and care.”
Kong expressed hope that the affected families would be able to rebuild their homes as soon as possible.
The fire, which broke out on Thursday around 3.32pm, completely destroyed a block of Rh Nura Buling, displacing approximately 350 residents. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
