MIRI: The Division Disaster Management Committee here has urged the Miri community to sanitise their respective homes.

“The focus of the sanitisation shall be towards the commonly touched public surface areas such as door knobs, keys, tables, toys, telephones, electric switches and plugs, furniture, sinks, kitchen cabinets, computer keyboard and mouse, toilet flush handle, floor, handrails, and water taps,” said Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

He also suggests the people to use common household disinfectants which contain at least five percent sodium hypochlorite or common brands such as Chlorox or Dettol.

“Sanitisation of public areas such as the tamu, market and bus station will be performed by the local councils in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba),” Lee said in a statement.

“In the meantime, we would like to remind the public to wash their hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitisers. Please maintain social distancing (minimum one metre) and avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth. Practise proper coughing etiquette by covering the mouth,” he added.

Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, the Health Ministry has advised the public and patients to be forthright when providing information of their travel history, symptoms and close contact interactions.

“The Miri Division Disaster Management Committee would like to remind everyone that the act of withholding information will risk the lives and safety of your family, the healthcare workers and general public,” he said.

Lee also urged the people to adhere to the MCO rules and stay at home.
