SARATOK: Kalaka assemblyman Mohamd Duri has stressed the importance of fostering volunteer activities in the community to ensure that the spirit of helping each other continues to thrive.
He said there are still many people around who need attention.
“So, take responsibility. While volunteer work may not promise monetary rewards, it is a noble endeavour if done sincerely.
I hope that the culture of helping each other can continue to be nurtured among the community, especially in the villages.”
Mohamad said this in response to the gotong-royong programme in Kampung Tanjung near here.
He praised the commitment of the Betong Divisional Social Welfare Office (PKMB) for cleaning a client’s house through the Help in Home Service Programme.
Mohamad also donated dry food and daily necessities to the elderly Lohan Ganti. The donation was presented by Betong Division Community Welfare officer Abdul Shamat Kassim.
The programme was successfully implemented by practical students at the Saratok District Social Welfare Office (PKMD).
Lohan has limited mobility due to vision problems and is now staying at his sister-in-law’s house.
For the record, Lohan has been receiving senior citizen assistance of RM500 a month since May 2012.
Betong Division Volunteer Community Development Unit coordinator Dayang Nor Fitri Abang Sapini was also present.
