KUCHING: The soon-to-be constructed Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) complex at Ong Tiang Swee Road here is a reflection of the inclusive policy of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The minister in charge of Unifor, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said not only had the state government provided the 1.2 hectare site, it had also given a grant of RM70 million to cover the construction cost.

He said this after leading the unit’s charitable trust committee members to visit the site yesterday.

Uggah added that the earth breaking ceremony for the 10-storey complex would be carried out in September.

It is set to feature a two-storey convention centre, green building, and smart technologies including charging stations for electric vehicles.

He said the committee had submitted the building plan to the government for approval.

“On behalf of all the non-Islamic religions in the state, I would like to express our profound appreciation to Abang Johari for his generosity and his deep concern for us all.
