SIBU: The level of compliance to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) at primary schools here has been satisfactory, said Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee.
He said the use of face masks among students showed that parents were very concerned about protecting their children from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Similarly, teachers are providing hand sanitisers at school. Students are also checked for their body temperature before allowed to enter their classrooms.
“Overall, the SOPs from the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) have been complied with by all primary schools in Sibu.
“Congratulations to parents, teachers and students because their level of awareness is very high in our efforts to fight this deadly epidemic,” he said during a visit to SK Abang Ali here yesterday.
The surprise visit was to monitor SOP compliance with the recovery movement control order (RMCO) for primary schools which was fully reopened on Thursday.
Dr Annuar also suggested the use of face masks in public places, adding that those who defy it should be fined.
“Finally, on August 1, the federal government has agreed to impose a compound on those who are found not to wear face masks in public places such as shopping malls, markets and so on.
“I strongly agree with such actions in our efforts to break the chain and the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic,” said the Nangka assemblyman.
He said the virus could remain in the air for up to eight hours, meaning the use of a face mask should be mandatory in any public place.
