SIBU: The people here have been reminded to comply strictly with the health standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.

Senator Robert Lau stressed that SOPs such as putting on face masks, practising physical distancing and personal hygiene were very important while waiting for the vaccinations to be sped up for the whole community to achieve herd immunity.

“The only way to stop the spread is by fully complying with the SOPs now,” he said after handing out posters on the SOPs in Sibu today (May 1).

“Covid-19 has spread to many longhouses and rural communities and this has been one of the causes of the high number of daily cases in Sibu and elsewhere in Sarawak,” Lau pointed out.

He added that in Sibu division, 184 longhouses had reported positive cases and had experienced lockdown.

“As of today (May 1), there are 57 longhouses under lockdown in Sibu division, with 16 in Sibu, 11 in Selangau and 30 in Kanowit,” said Lau, who is Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman.
