SIBU: Longhouse residents who are subject to movement restrictions are reminded to always comply with instructions from the authorities.

Political secretary to the chief minister Romeo Christopher Tegong said that by doing so, it would aid the government’s efforts in combating the worsening Covid-19 situation here.

“Your cooperation is necessary to assist the government for that purpose. It’s simple — stay in your room and do not go out,” he said here on Sunday (Jan 24).

Earlier, Romeo, who is also the head of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan branch, said he and his team monitored the enforcement control centres or ‘checkpoints’ in longhouses that were subject to movement restrictions.

Among the control centres he visited were located at Penasu, Rantau Panjang and Pasai.

He explained that residents should contact the enforcement officers at their respective control centres if they need anything.

“Do not worry about food supply and other things as everything will be provided. We just need you to stay in your respective rooms,” he added.

Romeo also expressed his gratitude to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel carrying out their duties at checkpoints during the movement control order (MCO) period in Sibu.

“We hope and pray that the situation in Sibu will gradually improve. It is a pity to see longhouse residents under restricted movement,” said Romeo.
