KUCHING: A community celebration of unity and well-being, the “Hari Kesejahteraan Bersama” carnival showcased a variety of aid programmes designed to support Sarawakian families.
Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development I Datuk Rosey Yunus said the government is committed to alleviate financial burdens, particularly for new mothers and young children.
The Bantuan Ibu Bersalin (BIB) provides RM450 to Sarawakian mothers or wives of Sarawak citizens after childbirth, covering essential postnatal costs.
“This initiative aims to support mothers during the critical postnatal period,” she said.
The Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS) offers a promising start for newborns, with RM1,000 deposited into a savings account for each Sarawak-born child.
“This fund is an investment in our children’s future,” she added.
For families earning RM7,000 or less monthly, a childcare and early education subsidy of up to RM1,000 per child per year is available.
“This subsidy ensures that all children, regardless of family income, can access quality early education and childcare,” she said.
The carnival, held at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Center Kuching today (Nov 10), brought together Family Day, Elderly Day, Children’s Day, and the Day for Persons with Disabilities under one roof, fostering community connections and highlighting Sarawak’s dedication to well-being and unity.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development II, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, Permanent Secretary Datuk Felicia Tan Yan Hua, and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
