KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) should be able to win the 15th general election (GE15) handsomely judging from its “comprehensive” manifesto.

Political observer Dr Gregory Hii said the manifesto was very comprehensive and covered various areas close to the hearts of Sarawakians.

“This also includes political stability to allow GPS to negotiate the best but fair deals with the new federal government for Sarawakians.

“A landslide victory will strengthen GPS at the negotiating table,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on yesterday (Nov 7).

Hii was commenting on the coalition’s manifesto that was revealed by GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg last Sunday (Nov 6).

GPS outlined five main pillars and 25 thrusts with 215 commitments in its manifesto, with the theme ‘Ensuring Sarawak’s Stability, Progress and Prosperity’.

Meanwhile, another political analyst, Professor Dr Novel Lyndon from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, said the manifesto was very inclusive in line with the geographical position, population settlement pattern, demographic and socioeconomic profile of the people of Sarawak.

“The aspects emphasised in this manifesto can be divided into three from the perspective of political development, namely physical development, community welfare regardless of social class and gender, sustainable development based on the Sustainable Development Goals.”

However, he stressed that the manifesto must be implemented as promised as implementation in the form of policy and accountability was most important.

“As the most stable state in Malaysia, I think GPS can do it. They are the most focused,” he opined.
