SIBU: The Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) has recently completed the construction of a new concrete bridge at Jalan Ting Sing Bawang Assan, replacing the worn-out wooden bridge.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch’s development and community chief Kelvin Lau Kor Jie said that this new bridge will bring great convenience to the local residents.

In a statement today (August 4) Lau said the idea for the new bridge came from the residents themselves, who initially reached out to their community leader with the request.

In response, Lau, who also serves as an SRDC Councillor, visited the site, gathered information, and submitted the residents’ request to the authorities.

Before the concrete bridge, the residents used makeshift wooden planks to cross the river, which only served pedestrians.

However, as time went on and they acquired motorcycles and cars, they took the initiative to build a larger and sturdier wooden bridge.

Despite their efforts, regular wear and tear required constant repairs.

The residents are grateful to SRDC for fulfilling their request and providing them with this much-needed infrastructure upgrade.
