KOTA SAMARAHAN: The community in Kota Samarahan is being called not to look at the road congestion issue in the area with a bad light.
The GPS candidate cum incumbent for Kota Samarahan parliamentary seat Datuk Rubiah Wang said that it is part of the pain to go through during a transitional process.
“Kota Samarahan is not like how it used to be when it was a small village as now it has turned into a very busy centre just located at the outskirt of Kuching.
“We should look at the road congestion issue with a positive light as it shows that we are committed in developing Kota Samarahan for the better,” she told the reporters after all of the nomination documents have been confirmed by the Returning Officer Anuar Da’an at the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre yesterday.
She added that the road congestion issue in Kota Samarahan is just for the short term and it is not going to last very long once the many projects are completed in the area meant to solve the issue.
“Among the projects is the upgrading of Jalan Datuk Mohamad Musa and turning it into a detour to the Pan Borneo Highway.
“Another project is the seven-kilometre-long route that links Kota Samarahan and Sejingkat which will also be turned into a detour.
“We are also planning to have project to turn all the roundabouts into traffic light intersections,” she revealed.
In the meantime, Rubiah shared that the Sarawak government will also improve the public transport system in the area within the next two years, namely with the modern Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART).
“The construction of the first station in Kampung Rembus will be implemented at the end of November and we hope to be able to monitor the traffic congestion on the road from time to time.
“In addition to turning the roundabout into traffic light intersections, we will also continue to create detour from the Stakan area to the airport,” she added.
Meanwhile, Rubiah also called for the authorities to deploy officers to control the traffic congestion in the area, especially during peak hours.
“We know that during peak hours, the Kuching-Samarahan traffic congestion is really bad.
“I hope that all the plans that have been set will be carried out according to the timeline and if given the opportunity to be the MP again, I will further intensify the transformation of this area in the next five years,” she concluded.
