KUCHING: Priscilla Tawie, New Sarawak Tribune’s feature writer and Evans Ng finally had their long-awaited dream wedding reception after seven years of their Registration of Marriage (ROM).
In 2016, the 29-year-old Priscilla and 35-year-old Evans officially tied the knot and were only able to celebrate their wedding reception at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Hall on Oct 12, 2023.
Priscilla recalled the challenges she and her husband faced during their marriage journey.
“We completed our ROM, but due to certain circumstances, it forced us to postpone our wedding reception.
“First, we had to battle with Evans’s grandfather dying state. Then, he passed away four months after our ROM due to old age,” she said.
She then explained that according to Chinese tradition, she and her husband needed to wait for three years to hold the reception.
“However, after three years, we encountered another hurdle, the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
“So, even after seven years of waiting, I feel grateful. This is because we are at this financial stability stage where we can afford many things.
“At the same time, with the help of my in-laws, we managed to create a wedding that reflects our personalities,” she said.
Priscilla, who is an Iban, is the third child of Mr and Mrs Sulok Tawie, while Evans, who is Chinese, is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Johhny Ng.
Meanwhile, Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian were among the more than 300 guests who attended the wedding reception.
Among those present were also Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Political Secretary to the Premier Kho Teck Wan, and former Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei.
Guests were also entertained by performances which featured the well-known traditional music band, At Adau.
