KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is as delighted as every other Sarawakian and Malaysian following Datuk Pandelela Rinong and teammate Nur Dhabitah Sabri’s gold in the women’s 10m platform synchro competition at the Hanoi SEA Games.
“Congratulations to Datuk Pandelela Rinong for striking gold with Nur Dhabitah Sabri.
“They (Malaysia’s eighth gold medal in diving) ensured a complete clean sweep for Malaysia in the diving competition,” said Abdul Karim, who is Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development.
He was with, among others, Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development permanent secretary Nancy Jolhi and Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer Morshidi Frederick to show support to the national team.
They also met with Sarawak swimmer Welson Sim, who will compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
On Wednesday (May 11), Pandelela and Nur Dhabitah scored 292.14 points while Singapore’s Ong Sze En and Ong Rei En bagged the silver with 225.42 points.
ietnam’s Bui Thị Hong Giang and Mai Hong Hanh scored 185.25 points to settle for third place.
In 2019—when the Southeast Asian Games were hosted by the Philippines—Malaysia also bagged all four diving gold medals on offer.
