The state government should consider giving allowances to ‘tuai rumahs’ (village heads) who have at least 15 doors, appealed Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong.
“There are still quite a number of ‘tuai rumahs’ who have not received any allowance. At present, only ‘tuai rumahs’ with 20 doors or more are eligible to be paid allowances,” he said during his debate speech yesterday.
He pointed out that they shoulder the same responsibilities as the ‘tuai rumahs’ with longer longhouses, and they also have Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) which operate in the same manner.
“They play an equally important role in our society,” Allan emphasised.
