KUCHING: The new Federal Government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to consider giving the state a larger allocation.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the allocation is needed for the development here especially in terms of infrastructure, education, health and security so that Sarawak does not fall behind and is in line with the development in the peninsula.
“Sarawak needs many more facilities such as roads, bridges, electricity supply, water, and telecommunications systems.
“In terms of education, health and security, it should be improved because Sarawak has many schools, hospitals and rural clinics which are in a poor condition,” he said.
He said this when met by the media after officiating the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Outstanding Service Award and Appreciation Dinner at Waterfront Hotel on Friday (Dec 2).
Following this, he said that large allocations should also be emphasised towards the implementation of industrial estates and manufacturing premises in the state.
“This is important to increase efforts to attract domestic direct investment (DDI) and foreign direct investment (FDI) to Sarawak.
“Furthermore, the improvement of socio-economic programmes is also necessary to help entrepreneurs, small and medium businessmen to uplift themselves in the business field,” he said.
Meanwhile, when commenting on the appointment of five Members of Parliament (MP) of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) including the position of Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), Awang Tengah hopes that more MPs from Sarawak will be appointed as Deputy Ministers.
“We have elected representatives (MPs) who are capable and have the determination to work.
“Though Anwar has reduced the number of people in the cabinet, we hope more MPs will be appointed as Deputy Ministers,” he said, adding that having five GPS MPs as full ministers is what the party has hoped for.
