KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman Larry Sng said the government should consider relaxing the movement control order (MCO) in green zones.
He noted that the government is doing well in tackling the Covid-19 crisis but he stressed that the MCO has been a huge blow on the livelihood of the people.
“I personally support the government’s position in tackling Covid-19. However, the MCO has badly impacted many people financially, especially the poor and daily paid workers.
“In green zones, the government could relax the MCO so that life can return to normal,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Larry, who is also the Julau MP, said if the matter was allowed to worsen, the ones who will pay the heavy price would be Sarawakians themselves.
“When people have no income and no food to eat, society will break down and there will be starvation. The government has to take this issue into account,” he said.
On Saturday, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah expressed worry over people in green zones who seemingly began to let their guard down after no new cases in their respective areas were detected.
He further said the battle against Covid-19 had not come to an end, thus prompting the Ministry of Health (MOH) to urge the public to continue adhering to the MCO.
