KUCHING: Millennials, especially school leavers have been urged to venture into the oil palm plantation industry as it has more perks and benefits than working in the food delivery business.
Chief Operating Officer of Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad and Sarawak Oil Palm Plantation Owners Association (SOPPOA) chairman Eric Kiu Kwong Seng made this call at the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) webinar here recently.
Among the perks and benefits (taken from Sime Darby recruitment ad) include:
Social Security Organisation (Socso), Employment Insurance System, a 15 percent Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution, settling in allowance, free housing and basic necessities like gas cylinder and cooker, water bill subsidy, phone allowance, medical clinic facilities, childcare centre, yearly schooling aid, children’s school transport facilities, annual leave, festive token, and retirement token.
He said university graduates should also consider a career in the palm oil industry as it is the world’s most in demand oil seed.
Kiu added that upstream, mid-stream and downstream activities in the industry also allow for professional development in skill sets that are “almost unmatched” by any other industry.
“Palm oil industry is an infinite industry that the world is banking on to ensure food security for the ever-growing world population,” he said.
