THE construction of the Miri- Marudi Road which is scheduled to be completed in March, 2019 is progressing well and ahead of time, said Assistant Minister of Local Government, Datu Dr Penguang Manggil.
“It will probably be completed by the end of next year or even earlier,” he assured a press conference at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly in Petra Jaya, Kuching yesterday. According to Dr Penguang, there were many misconceptions about the Miri-Marudi Road project.
“ The road project actually started in March, 2017 and the Letter of Award of Contract was given out only in Oct. In other words, the contractor, CMS, started the work even before the Letter of Award was given out. “The contract period is 20 months,” he said.
According to him, only a few kilometres up to Sungai Arang had not been gravelled yet. Dr Penguang, who is also Marudi State Assemblyman, thanked the Chief Minister for announcing the construction of the Baram Bridge that would connect the Miri- Marudi Road under the midterm review of the Malaysia Plan. “I hope the people in Marudi will be appreciative to the Chief Minister for the construction of this bridge,” he added.
