MIRI: The earth breaking ceremony of four projects under the Highland Development Agency (HDA) valued at RM56.3 million in Long Bedian yesterday indicates the state government’s commitment of inclusiveness development covering not only urban areas, but also rural areas.
The projects are fully funded by the state government.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that unlike those within the opposition block, the state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has never failed to fulfill their promises.
Also present were Dennis Ngau and Datuk Gerawat Gala, assemblymen for Telang Usan and Mulu respectively.
“We deliver what we have promised to the rakyat unlike those in the opposition and today’s event is proof that GPS delivers what is promised, and it’s not a political propaganda,” he said.
Uggah who is also Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister reminded people in the rural areas not to fall victim to propaganda on land issues by the opposition.
“The opposition oftentimes use Section 6 of the Land Code to instigate the people, saying that the state government will grab their lands, which is not true, especially on land acquisition for building schools or roads” he pointed out.
Uggah described such act as bizarre, because to acquire land for the purpose of development, compensations are given fairly.
He also called on rural folk whose lands were affected for HDA’s projects to get rid of their ‘blockade’ mentality, and instead, discuss or talk to settle the issues.
